HOME BUYING RESOURCES: MOVING AND SETTLING IN

The stress and anxiety that goes with finding a new house can be overwhelming at times. Watching a movie is usually a good stress reliever, but not every movie will calm your nerves. Here are a few movies to avoid while going through the house hunting process.

  • The Money Pit: We don't know what's more painful: sinking wads of cash into a house or the strained slapstick of Tom Hanks and Shelley Long.

  • The House That Dripped Blood: Looks like you've got an insulation issue. We're no Ty Pennington, but when the house drips blood, it's time for a really extreme makeover.

  • Monster House: This one's definitely a fixer upper. Three kids investigate the creepy house next door. Could ultra-creepy house owner Steve Buscemi be involved? Naaah!

  • Poltergeist: Craig T. Nelson and Jobeth Williams think there might be a problem with their house when their little girl GETS SWALLOWED BY THE TV SET!

  • House of Dracula: We don't think anyone will be dropping by with a loaf of friendship bread anytime soon. Hi, can I borrow a cup of blood?

  • House of Frankenstein: It answers all the questions that House of Dracula left open. Hi, can I borrow a cup of. Arrgh! Fire!

  • House of Sand and Fog: An excellent film with some Oscar-nominated performances, but this movie is so depressing, it makes Titanic look like a rollicking comedy of errors.

  • The Amityville Horror: Based on a true incident, this story had enough juice for many, many quite bad sequels and remakes. When the house tells you to get out. GET OUT!

  • The House of the Seven Gables: Now we're not 100 percent sure what a gable is, but really, we think six gables are quite sufficient.

  • House of 1000 Corpses: Rob Zombie's tender coming of age story about a young. no, you got us, it's really about maniacs on a killing spree.

  • The House on Skull Mountain: When yours is the only house on Skull Mountain, it's time to rethink your relationship with your realtor.
