New Jersey is divided into six regions, each imbued with its own distinct character and splendor, but certain features of the state's landscape and sensibility are constants throughout the entire area.
Aptly labeled "The Garden State," New Jersey's lush gardens and color-filled arboreta unify all six regions, including those that comprise Southern New Jersey: the Atlantic City Region, the entire Southern Shore and portions of the eastern Shore, and the lower half of the Delaware Region. New home construction in Southern New Jersey is ongoing, so the only trick is choosing where to live.
A hotbed of round-the-clock casinos and top-notch entertainment, the late-night scene in Atlantic City is non-stop. The 37 million people who visit this area each year have a heaping dose of upscale shopping, glittering beaches and outdoor activities at their fingertips. If it's not baseball, basketball or golf on the agenda; it could be any number of water sports, like deep sea fishing, sailing or surfing, or dolphin- and whale-watching! People also are drawn to prominent area landmarks, like the world-famous Boardwalk and historic Renault Winery.
Thanks to the pristine beaches, filled with water and sky the same hue of blue, the Southern Shore and eastern Shore Regions are one of New Jersey's most popular vacation destinations. The boardwalks, amusement piers and historic lighthouses of the eastern Shore attract a more adventurous audience. In fact, Six Flags Great Adventure is home to the world's tallest and fastest steel roller coaster.
By contrast, the leisurely appeal of the Southern Shore is a sanctuary for those seeking a more relaxed ambiance, whether romantic or family oriented. Cape May's Zoo and diamond hunts are always popular, while the Bridgeton Historical District -- with its 2,200 Colonial, Victorian and Federalist buildings -- showcases yet another cohesive element contributing to the whole of New Jersey, its rich past.
The Delaware Region covers sections of South Jersey and overlaps with much of Central New Jersey. The unsurpassed natural beauty of this area is evident in the rugged mountains and idyllic waterfalls spread across the 70,000 acres composing the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and the lush Pinelands of the country's first national reserve.
There is no wrong place to plant yourself and your new home in South Jersey. But with so many choices, you're sure to get it just right.
