KGW News- Buying Green Now
Event Date: 12/31/2008
Event Time: 08:00 AM - 06:00 PM
For many buyers looking for that perfect home NOW may be the time to buy and be comfortable for years to come. Buying a new certified energy efficient home offers a host of both short and long term benefits to homeowners, including: - Historic lows in long-term mortgage rates; - Energy efficient mortgages available to offset mortgages; Example: Columbia Credit Union in Southwest WA offers a Living Green Mortgage that can save homebuyers up to $1,500 on closing costs for homes that are certified to be energy efficient through Earth Advantage, ENERGY STAR or LEED programs - Increased inventory levels mean homebuyers can buy more home for their money; - ENERGY STAR certified homes are more use less energy to operate than code-built homes, which means lower utility bills every month In evaluating the Portland and SW WA landscape, the new homebuilders that seem to be weathering the storm include those builders that have committed to building energy efficient homes. New Tradition Homes in Vancouver, WA committed to building 100% of their homes to be ENERGY STAR certified. As of April 2008, New Tradition Homes has built 645 ENERGY STAR and/or Earth Advantage Certified Homes. In comparison to a code-built home, the annual savings equivalent represented by these 645 ENERGY STAR homes is: - Eliminating emissions from 452 vehicles, or - Saving 247,680 pounds of coal, or - Planting 32,250 trees, and - Saving homeowners $288,315 on utility bills Additional benefits for ENERGY STAR homebuyers: ADDED CONFIDENCE Home buying is complex enough without having to know all the details of energy-efficient construction. Instead, homebuyers can look for the government-backed ENERGY STAR label to easily identify homes that are truly energy efficient. Homeowners will enjoy peace of mind knowing that their ENERGY STAR home has been thirdparty inspected and certified to meet strict energy efficiency guidelines established by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Join the Drive to Start a New Tradition
Event Date: 12/31/2008
Event Time: 11:00 AM - 05:00 PM
Starting October 31st, New Tradition Homes, one of Southwest Washington's largest residential home builders, launched a food drive for the North County Community Food Bank. The drive has been a huge success, with several bins already full. New Tradition Homes is encouraging people to keep giving, especially as financial burdens during the holidays increase. Continuing through the end of December, the New Tradition Homes office and each model home sales office in New Tradition Homes communities has a canned food bin. Serving neighbors in crisis, the Food Bank's goal is to help community members build more stable, independent and productive lives. Elaine Hertz, Program Director for the food bank, said "Our needs have skyrocketed since May. The food bank is serving over 400 local families a month, and we are coming into our heaviest demand season. I am very concerned about being able to meet this need, and this help couldn't come at a better time." The North County Community Food Bank is a recognized 501 (c )3 non-profit. New Tradition Homes continues a long-standing tradition of supporting the communities they build, even in this time of economic instability. Kelly Helmes, Vice President of New Tradition Homes, said that the company recognizes that many families are struggling in the current economic climate. "It's not enough to build communities. We need to support our neighbors and their families here in Clark County, and it should start at home." Nonperishable food can be dropped off at the following New Tradition Home communities Monday through Friday 11am to 5pm, and Saturday 10am to 5pm: Sixth Street Station 523 SE 13th Avenue Battle Ground, WA 98604 (360) 666-0127 Donations can also be dropped off at New Tradition Homes office at 11815 NE 113th Street, Suite 110, Vancouver, WA, or taken directly to the North County Community Food Bank, located at 17 NE 3rd Avenue, Battle Ground, WA 98604.
